Syedpur is a village in Syedpur Shaharpara Union, Jagannathpur Upazila, Sunamganj District, Sylhet Division, Bangladesh. It was founded in the 14th century by Syed Shamsuddin — a Syed of Husayni lineage and one of twelve disciples of the Sufi master Shah Kamal Quhafah, who was sent by Shah Jalal to spread Islam across Sunamganj after the conquest of Sylhet in 1303 CE. The village name means 'settlement of the Syed', honouring this founding lineage. Located approximately six kilometres southeast of Jagannathpur town (coordinates: 24°45′N, 91°35′E), Syedpur sits at the edge of Bangladesh's extraordinary haor wetland landscape, where the Kushiyara and Ratna rivers shape a way of life built on seasonal flood, Boro rice cultivation, and freshwater fisheries. The Syedpur Shaharpara Union covers 41 villages across nine wards and is home to approximately 24,000 people.
Syedpur.net is a community-driven platform built to document and preserve the history, culture, people, and places of Syedpur and its surrounding area. It is designed as a living archive — a place where residents, diaspora families, and friends of the village can submit stories, share photographs, record oral histories, and maintain a moderated public record for future generations. The platform combines a heritage magazine, a local places directory, an events calendar, a media gallery, and a community hub.
